Web/Database Developerposted on 28/2/2007**UK ONLY PLEASE. THIS IS AN IN-HOUSE ROLE BASED IN KINGSTON UPON THAMES** Web/Database developer Proficient programmer with design appreciation required. Must be able to take flat photoshop/illustrator files and build W3C compliant websites and emailers using a variety of programming languages. You would be taking over the technical management and development of existing sites and ongoing projects. You must have suitable experience with CMS and large ecommerce sites, excellent oral and written English communication skills and a passion for clean, scalable and standard-compliant code. The role: Working in conjunction with our designers you will take flat mock-ups to live and tested websites for a variety of clients from small and static to fully-loaded dynamic ecommerce sites. You will also be involved in the regular distribution of email campaigns and e-newsletters with associated landing pages and all the necessary link tracking. You will be creating, managing and maintaining all of our client's live sites and databases, including user registrations. Absolute must haves: • Ability to use UNIX/PERL for website config including htaccess and mod_rewrite. In some cases where websites are hosted by a 3rd party you will need to find "workarounds" to instances where we do not have web config privileges. • HTML/XHTML/DHTML, Javascript & CSS skills with a good understanding of how these can affect SEO and cross-platform/cross-browser compatibility. • Ability to read/write XML schemas and use the XPath functions to read/write XML data to web pages/databases. XSL / XSLT • Thorough knowledge of PHP4/5 and the understanding of version compatibility. Ability to manage website access with memberships/logins/CMS, whether using existing or custom built scripts. • Knowledge of SQL database creation, administration and data control with PHP. • You must be able to work well on your own initiative but be able to work as part of a team that includes non-web savvy members. You will need great comunication skills in order to explain the principles involved in your work and ensure that everybody is aware of the possibilities and limitations of any ideas proposed.
