Perl Mail Utility

posted on 21/11/2007

We have a need to create a Perl mail utility that will pull files from a directory (formatted to contain html_text_ind, return_path/reply-to, from_name, from_email, to_name, to_email, subject, email_text). The email_text will be HTML or text content, as indicated by the html_text_ind value.

The perl utility would run in the background, and watch the directory, and process/send any files found, deleting them after they are picked up for sending. It would format the headers and email content and send (via sendmail).

If there are any errors with the send, it would create an output file (format TBD) that would be placed in a specific directory, to be pulled in by our application for further processing.

The application would need to pull possible remote SMTP information from a properties file - in case SMTP is not local to the server.

So, it's a basic Email sending process that we need put together. I need someone who has experience with Perl and could put this together in a reasonably quick timeframe, work with us in the testing/debugging, and turn it over to us with all the information re: how to install, start/stop, etc. (we'd need to be able to set it to start when the box starts).

We run a RHEL Linux environment.

We are no longer accepting applications for this project.
