I wouldn't worry too much about support for Macs; our Mac-only LAN
has been happily sharing a connection to BT's ADSL trial for over a
year. Net protocols aren't platform dependent. If the ISPs choose not
to give their helpdesk people Mac training I know for a fact that
some other people will some, shall we say, 'independent' tech support
for getting your Macs connected to DSL :)
As to exactly when it'll get rolled out, all of the ISPs are at the
mercy of BT's timetable. Having to spoken to a BT DSL engineer
recently it's probably safe to say that it _is_ coming and when it
does it _will_ work. The delays seem to have been caused by
engineering problems rather than political subterfuge.
Cheers
