Hi

Angie, Tommy's partner here.

I've heard (from a reliable source) that the business package of
openworld (the one that's ethernet not the domestic USB) will be
offering a fixed IP for running a server from. This needs to be
checked into as they don't firewall you as such, it's the way the DSL
works in this case, everything gets passed through the exchange to
prevent users on the same exchange seeing each other, the helpdesk
told me it is not a normal firewall.

We also want to run servers so we're watching this.

So far have got as far as having voice over IP using Ivisit, most of
the other packages don't work as certain UDP ports have been barred
(and they seem defiant that they couldn't change that even if they
wanted to). However I'm having free calls to my ISP in Ireland every
day now :-)

Things will change quickly as of June 29th... mark my words. And
remember this is an evolving technology and this means things can and
will change quickly.

As for needing server addresses, we never run any ****** CD's to
install our connection. it's all DHCP and go to your router to log on
to the network. so I wouldn't worry about that either....
I'm sure they'll give you a CD but the helpdesk can (and the one for
the trial was full of helpful people if you didn't treat them like
****) tell you the ip's and things.

Good luck people. Hope the waits not too bad. I for one will never go
back to the modem (we had to last week as our router broke, however
BT was round within 48 hrs to replace the lot.) In comparison they
really really are 10 times slower (and hopefully that was the last
time I get reminded of them).

Angie
