A beer and a chat in Oxford?
date posted 7th June 2000 10:39
Every six months or so, a group of multi media and Web developers,
originally from the DUG UK list, meet for an informal beer and a chat in
Oxford. If any freelancers would like to come along they will be welcome.
Place: Eagle and Child pub in St. Giles Street, Oxford
Time: Thursday 15th June at 7.30 till closing
Directions:
7:30pm till closing time. We normally sit right at the front of the pub in
the old alcoves, drink and
natter. Someone usually brings a computer book as a sign
Getting there :Oxford has become pedestrianised and nearly all routes
through the town have become a nightmare of complexity.
However from the Oxford ring road north of the city it's still fine from
either entry point. You follow directions into the city,a straight road
for about a mile or two, past residential housing until eventually you go
past a church where the roads merge into a very, very wide tree lined
street with parking on both sides next to the old colleges. This is St
Giles. Park as soon as you can before the road takes you into the city
proper. Eagle and Child is on the right of St Giles in the middle of a
terrace, cars parked in front. Quite a narrow pub, opposite side of the St
Giles street is another famous Oxford Pub the Lamb and Flag.
Trivia Note: E & C is the pub Tolkein and C.S.Lewis used to drink in and
discuss their current work
