Not sure about extending Flash along just one axis, but for your first
request you could use a table:
If you want it to sit flush, set your marginheight, marginwidth,
leftmargin, topmargin attributes to 0 in the body tag, and also bear
in mind that communicator will allow room for a scrollbar and
navigator won't do flush alignment outside frames.
