Yup. Although having enough sites which validate to W3C, Bobby etc won't do you any harm.

Most of the tech specialities do - MS, Oracle, CF, Sun, Novell, Linux, Broadvision. Even if most of them (MS in particular) use them as marketing material.

All you need is a pulse (and that's waived sometimes).

I've never met any real professional who's a member (and tells you anyway). It's a pretty devalued currency which denotes 'amateur' to most people.
