Errr. In some sense, yes, these days, Unix and Linux are more secure. But SGI Unix (Irix) had some amazingly poor security when installed "out of the box" a few years back. For example, 11 system accounts with no password set. And the very existence of /etc/passwd with readable (albeit encoded) passwords lead to shadow password files, but not all systems have these.
