Aren't award sites designed to build traffic to the site that's giving
the award?
They take a peak at your site, tell you it qualifies (of course!),
give you a button -- and bingo, they've got another sucker to post a
link with their name on it.
What do you get in return? A mention somewhere on one more
best-of-the-web site that no one pays any attention to -- except
losers who
are trying to win awards for their own sites.
Much better to devise your own award scheme. You'll have amateurs
queueing up for your blessing -- which you naturally give. You end up
with colourful link buttons all across the net.
Anyone like to apply for the TextWizard Award for Tried-and-Tested
Link Scams?
sceptically,
