Re: FN-FORUM SalesLogix CRM software

Ray

We are a team of Oracle developers and spend a good deal of time on
integration projects. The cost of these projects is often determined by the
complexity of the API and the degree of documentation made available by the
vendor of the legacy system. Before you jump in and give a price ensure
that you're not dealing with a 'closed' system and that external access to
the data is possible. A good rule of thumb is to go to the website of the
vendor and examine the support section. If there is a lack of info there
then you may be in for a bruising battle. Very often the vendor will not
supply any information on the API as they wish to maximise their on-site and
support revenues i.e. 'if you wish to link to our product you must give us a
shout'. I'm not familiar with SalesLogix and so can't cast judgement. Once
you have the API figured out the remainder of the project is reasonably
straight forward. What cgi are you considering ? If you are dealing with a
'closed'' system then you will have to reverse engineer the database into a
CASE tool or do a full analysis on the data structure to figure out the nuts
and bolts. Getting this wrong can lead to all sorts of problems in the
existing system. Do you wish to modify data or are you only interested in
read access ?

Regards
Paidi
