Re: FN-FORUM Scroll Bars / flash HOORAY!

date posted 23rd January 2001 20:17

I have never heard such a bunch of Granddad arguments, I mean come on, Flash
has much more depth to it than 'pretty pictures', and you

>> I think this says it all... who do you work for? Walt Disney
Well that's a ignorant comment if I have ever heard one, what the hell do
you know about design, honestly what do you know? Anything, brand values? do
you know what they are. The amount of sites that people ask to have comments
made on on this forum which look crap is astonishing, I have to old back as
to not offend anyone, but most look terrible, don't get me wrong they work
fine.

Design is all about selling the product through the use of emotion, you use
peoples emotions, I can't believe the amount of people who are trying to
argue content over design, they go hand in hand. It was a breath of fresh
air when Bob Gentle showed his site today, it was actually one that was
pleasnig to look at, the main problem is that many people are working on
fine price lines and do not subcontarct any work. If you are a shit designer
don't argue content over design just to save yourself the hiring of someone
else, admit your crap and employ a designer because design is so important.

People don't buy the new Audi TT because it has a good engine, they buy it
because it looks good, people don't wear designer gear because it will last
longer, they buy it because it looks nice, face it we live in a world
dominated by materialism, (unless most of you drive a Sierra and shop in
Debenhams). You are not going to sell a product on the net just by having
the information they require, you have to reach to their emotional needs.
This is done through colour, images and with Flash motion, not a nice HTML
page which downloads in a second and is full of information.

As a designer, I know for a fact that Flash is the best product on the web
for reaching peoples emotional needs, it is not require on sites like Amazon
and Yahoo because they have a simple function, but anyone who is selling a
desirable product cannot just overlook Flash.

Not one person hear has spoke like they truly understand Flash, when Flash
became commercial, many jobs were rushed without thinking about what was
trying to be achieved. Flash is an extremely diverse product which can
operate in many different forms and perform many different functions, any
debate on the subject is only worth having with people who do know what they
are talking about.

Again, back to your point about who do I work for, who do you work for???
What clients do you work for??? Mateys Dentist and your Neighbours pub,
nice.

Your ignorance about design and especially about a product which you are
trying to build valid arguments on surprises me.

What also surprises me is your ignorance to retail when in fact you are
generally building retail environments, retail is about providing a consumer
want, content is not king.

Please learn your topic before arguing it
