RE: FN-FORUM A Ridiculous Reaction.....

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you haven't had to many
warnings from your ISP before, you'll probably get some kind of e-mail
customer liaison warning or caution from you ISP telling you not to do it
again since this could result in the termination of your account.
I know this because I had a mild caution once from Demon Internet for
attaching a text document to an e-mail sent to u.k.local.south-wales not
realising at the time that the text would come out encoded so I learned
fairly quickly that people will report you for even the mildest error of
judgement, and have never done this again.
Generally it is probably best to avoid anything that says uk.local.anywhere
even for discussion because there tend often to be a minority of housing
estate bullies who spoil them sometimes with pointless rules such as making
a huge fuss over signature sizes, which whilst such things can be seen as a
joke for a while, such inanities do wear thin after a while especially if
you are trying to have a serious discussion.
If you want to advertise it's probably best to use newsgroups specifically
designed for ads or stick to more specialised groups, some of the more
worldwide groups are often more tolerant of invitations to visit a website
or mildly worded ads than the uk.local ones. Maybe it's a British thing?

I think that some people maybe missing the point here (and I am sure lots of
you will say its me).
I did not send personally adressed emails, I postage a couple of messages on
a couple of newsgroups. I did not send multiple messages to the same group
or anything like that.
I would compare what I did to posting a card on a message board at a
supermarket. If the supermarket does not like the card, they can remove it.
Not jump completely overboard about it.
I did not force anyone to read the message and if it was offensive they
could remove the message and mail me to ask me not to post.
It is not like I took a list of mail addresses (or bought one) and mailed
everyone 30 times. As for the un-solicited theory, well, surely advertising
hordings or TV advertisements are equally unsolicited.
Thats my opinion anyway.
