Scrolling text within Flash
date posted 1st May 2001 10:41
Hi,
I know this is a Flash thread and there are, it seems quite a few who would
think oh no not another Flash site, but the client insisted and I haven't
got a problem with Flash so long as it's used in the manner it was intended.
I must admit though I don't like hanging around for huge Flash sites. That's
why, when I started building this site, I thought it's best to utilise the
load movie command and try to keep each movie under 30k. There's about 15 in
all.
Anyway the main reason for submitting is this, does anyone have a good and
simple way of setting up scrollable text within a Flash movie.
I used some within a movie using a dynamic text box. This is a little crude
I think, as you can't really apply any formatting as such to the text, it's
just one size, font and colour. The other thing that worried me a bit was,
when I went to show the client what I had done so far, there was no text
showing. Whether this was his computer I don't know, because I have tested
it on three separate computers and it was OK. But I don't have a reason for
this.
Here's a link to a basic test Flash 5 file (19KB)
www.ez-zone.co.uk/download.htm, which is part of the whole site. Each
technical movie is loaded under a main frame with navigation. It would be
interesting to see whether anyone could see a better way to use the
scrolling text. The spare area on the right will have a number of animated
technical drawings. They wanted everything to be shown on the screen at once
with no scrolling in the browser, as it was intended to adapt this for a CD
presentation.
Any ideas?
Steve
