RE: FN-FORUM UNIX hosting with unlimited POP3 support wanted!!
date posted 1st May 2001 14:48
Hi Steve,
I think our VS300 may be a bit too big for you, but basically any Unix/Linux
host using a virtusertable should be able to sort this out, either by
putting in mappings for each email address or by using the following format
in /etc/virtusertable:
@emaildomain.com [EMAIL REMOVED]
The %1 means that if someone sends an email to
[EMAIL REMOVED] it will be mapped to [EMAIL REMOVED]
[EMAIL REMOVED] to [EMAIL REMOVED] etc.
BTW as Unix/Linux rely on creating users to make POP accounts, and it is
normally limited to 65536 per box, people supplying VSs cant really provide
'unlimited' POPs as there *is* a limit to the number of users. BUT (there's
always a but) if you are forwarding to the company mailserver (as you seem
to want) then you aren't using POP boxes on the hosts server anyway, you are
using mail forwarding and those are limited only by the number you can fit
in a text file (i.e. LOTS).
Cheers,
Alex.
