sounds very unfortunate, but a good example of why you should put things in
writing. In my opinion, if you placed an order with them (as you admit) and
their regular published business practice is for the continual subscription
of domains unless otherwise notified, then I would think that your only
option is to cancel in writing effective from the next renewal period.
I suppose it depends on if you want to keep the domain, if so, they will
probably charge to release it.

Subject: FN-FORUM Early Morning Advice :-(
Hi,
I`m in need of advice especially from anyone who has had dealings with
www.vi.net (Virtual Internet) here`s the story.
I started freelancing in January 1999 and obviously one of the first things
I
needed to do was get a website up and running, I browsed around for a while
looking for a host. I decided initially to go with Virtual Internet because
at the time the deal wasn`t to bad (Although I was pretty in-experienced at
the time) so I ordered a .co.uk and a hosting package. But... I decided to
browse around a bit more just to see what else was on offer. And this is
where my problems began, I did find a lot of places that were doing much
better deals so I decided not to use Virtual Internet, but because I had
placed an order I had to get it cancelled. The order was placed late in the
evening so first thing in the morning I called them to cancel it, when I
spoke to them they told me that if the order had already been processed then
I would be charged an administration fee, which I agreed to because it still
worked out better for me. (Unfortunately I didn`t get this guys name)
Time passed and I never heard anything so I assumed the order wasn`t
processed and got on with my life. Then in January 2001 I received an
Statement telling me I owed over £250.00 well I was furious and phoned them
straight away. I told them my problem and they said they would call me back,
another week went by and still nothing so I called again, and again. 3
phonecalls over the space of a month and each time they put me off. But
finally they stopped sending me the statements so I thought it must be
sorted.
This morning I woke up to pick up the post and find an Invoice for £94.00
from them for the .co.uk name I originally registered with them two years
ago, but it wasn`t for that registration, they have renewed it!
I`m at the end of my tether now and I really don`t know what to do, there is
no way I am paying £94.00 for something I can get for a fiver nowadays, has
anyone else had similar problems with them, or who can advise me what to do
about it?
Thanks
Adrian
