Thats a bit harsh, and it doesn't do much for the image of our profession in
general. Our industry is already riddled with snake oil salesman, amateurs,
and just plain rip-off merchants, we really don't need this sort of thing
happening.
No-where in Darren's original email did he say that his friend wanted a
"highly secure, custom made payment processing system designed, installed
and tested for £100", he just wanted the ability to take credit card orders
online. If he was already paying a few hundred quid for a site then it
might not seem that cheap to pay an extra £100 for online ordering.
At the end of the day he's been ripped off. It might not technically be
fraud, but morally it is. If I was him (or a friend of his), I'd rip the
site, stick it on a different server, transfer the domain and tell 'em to
stuff themselves.
