RE: FN-FORUM Fasthosts
date posted 30th May 2001 16:42
and I just moved my and clients main sites to Fasthosts
It does appear to be a BT problem this time, but according to Fasthosts
marketing blurb they should have had enough redundancy to cope with this. At
the very least I would have expected them to find a work-around (at least
for some services) and to get back on-line in less than the 30 hours it has
taken. Having my primary email server down for that long is not acceptable,
so I am (again) considering paying a little more for better up-time.
innerHost (US) seem the favourite for reliable ASP/SQL Server (DSVR (UK)
seem good for Linux). Anyone disagree?
In the past I have assumed a UK based server would provide better
performance, but maybe reducing dependence on BT by using US based servers
is a better bet overall???
Incidentally the Fasthosts down-time today is not the only recent case.
Their ASP service has been down for short periods (20 minutes to 2 hours)
fairly regularly since I moved to them a couple of weeks ago. If you monitor
a site usng ASP, make sure you monitor an ASP URL as well as HTML.
