Re: FN-FORUM why all the fuss?
date posted 7th July 2001 20:19
Pete I think some of the things you've said touch on validity but one thing
that appeals to me about this list is the professionalism coupled with the
light heartedness. No other list would allow a platform flame war like the
one that just proceeded on Friday, which although not totally productive it
can bring up issues that we all want to discuss, other lists I'm a member of
would ban members outright for carrying on like that.
Another issue you should consider is that this is a freelance list.
Freelancers tend to work at home alone. This forum gives a social outlet for
something that could be a very isolating situation for some people. It has
tended to be all fine and dandy, nobody has complained about these "sad"
messages or tried to stop them but they have been in the nature of the list.
Spamming a list does not as far as I can tell add to the list in any way or
form and the difference between spam and the 'sad' messages is simply that
people don't or haven't complained about the 'sad' messages. Spam on the
other hand tends to draw in loads of complaints as you've pointed out.
I'd much prefer to trawl through messages of people chatting and sharing
tips and tricks on web design which may not totally relate to me than
trawling through messages like Johns which relate to nobody but his own
financial gain.
