Database usage/timeout question....

Hi everyone,

I could be wrong, but I think this question is aimed more at the developers
rather than the web people, but there is a cross over.

I am working on my pet project (I am sure we all have little project that we
all go back to when we are quiet). I am developing a product which will be
local computer based and internet based. It will use a database for storing
information (MySQL) and will synchronise periodically between the local
machine (main holder of info) and the net. Although the majority of
information will be entered locally, there is an option to 'subscribe' via
the internet site for information meeting certain criteria (simple query
stuff).

The questions are as follows:-

1) Has anyone used the VB client for MySQL, if so what is it like & where is
the dev info ?

2) Has anyone done local remote database sync's with MySQL ?

3) If there was a rental version of the system (say monthly), does anyone
have any good/nice suggestions on how to disable features etc unless a
secure code is entered.
