You are all missing a massive point.
When at Uni, you are studying with a group of people about to start in the
same professsion. Depending on the course you will be in first hand contact
with up to 100 people either in the industry or about to be in it. Not to
mention all the other people you will meet while you are there, all going
into / part of other industries.
Never mind all the programming, its the 'human' networking that can be
achieved while at uni that is the real benefit. Play your cards right and
you can find work finding its way to you without you having to do anything
at all.
Just don't go and do fungal archaeology in pre edwardian britain BSc.
Everyone in that department smelt rather bad and I never got work out of
any of them.
