RE: FN-FORUM Why Hand Code Anyway?
date posted 18th July 2001 15:38
The thing is we might have invented the wheel but still need feet. WYSIWYG
HTML editors are brilliant but having never used one without some ability to
hand code a page, and often finding that I need to hand edit code, even
created by Dreamweaver. I think it would be difficult to put together a
reliable Website without at least a basic knowledge of HTML and some ability
to hand code and be able to see and know what's going on in that yard of
code.
The trouble with HTML unlike Flash it's just too inconsistent (so many ways
to do things and so many weird and wonderful browsers to) to leave it
entirely to a WYSIWYG editor and besides if one wants to do more than create
a layout it's usually necessary to know a bit more than basic HTML. (even
Flash has it's ActionScript, and Oh God Director Lingo)
