Subject: RE: FN-FORUM Why Hand Code Anyway?

Hi there all,

Firstly, Rick, sorry mate, but that code is not hand coded on your
website. Or at least, not all of it. There's two completely different
types of indentation going on, and things like that, with no real form
to it at all...

Secondly, if you're going to handcode then you should use something
decent like Homesite on the PC, BBEdit on the Mac, Emacs on unix, etc.
These programs colour code your code for you so that you can jump
backwards and forwards between code sections and still have a good idea
where you are when you are scrolling.

You aren't doing either yourself or your client any favours by using
notepad or textedit/vi etc. as it takes YOU longer, costs THEM more
money and allows for a lot of simple mistakes to creep in.

Secondly, you can then get rid of those horrible tags that
so many college taught developers always use.

They only teach you that so that you can tell the difference between
TAGS and text. This is crap, and speaking as a past web trainer, is
really counter productive nowadays, what with wml, xml, JavaScript, ASP,
Perl, etc. all being case sensitive...

Sorry if this sounds like a flame session on Rick, it's not meant to be,
just one of my personal pet hates I'm afraid...

Damian.
