Too right. I used to work in an FE College and also for a YT training
provider, and the Careers service, and I train for CTECs and other
commercial providers of "real" computer training. The whole thing is a
very weird and wonderful mess. Basically, you teach out-of-date (mostly)
clerical skills (called computing) and get government funding and give
national qualifications, or you teach commercial (usually decent)
computer skills and get no funding and don't give any qualifications.
Many training providers exist to put young bums on employers' seats and
don't actually train at all, they go round with tick lists to make sure
that the employer has trained them and then give out NVQs. Oops, ranting
again. Oh dear--been training Funeral Arrangers for three weeks, the
atmosphere is getting to me (only two more days, then broke again!)
