When I lived in Hong Kong, tea was drank with a meal to help break up =
the oil. There are many types of tea ( as you are aware) but they served =
a special detox tea in cafes/restaurants etc to help with the digestion.
Hope it helps.
Paul.

Subject: FN-FORUM Tea, culture, and social class: discuss!
A couple of weeks ago we had a thread about drinking tea in hot
weather. I mentioned that I had pitched for a site about tea-drinking.
Now I'm writing it, and I could do with some cultural and sociological
input from you guys.
1) If anyone knows of any unusual local customs to do with
tea-drinking, I'd love to hear about them. Not just Britain, anywhere
in the world.
2) There's another specifically British point that I'd like to
clear up. The reference works say that during the 20th century,
afternoon tea (tea, sandwiches, and cake) and high tea (a full meal)
split along class lines. Where I come from in rural Berkshire, 'tea'
was definitely afternoon tea. But here in the Midlands (where I now
live), 'tea' is the term for an evening meal -- what I would call
'supper' or 'dinner'. That's too narrow a sample to make any wild
generalisations from. Would anyone care to dive into the murky waters
of the English (Scottish or Welsh) class systems and let me know where
they come from, what class they feel they belong to, and what meal
they think 'tea' is?
Please reply on- or off-list, depending on whether you'd like to share
your experiences with hundreds of freelancers -- or just the one.
Thanks for your help.
Chas Walton
