Re: FN-FORUM A suggestion....

Andy and other listees
I personally am very keen for the forum to be how it was say about a month
back. At that time people were mature enough to be able to tolerate a more
informal forum. The signal to noise ratio could get high but it usually
simmers and people got on with whatever but the informative messages still
got through. It was a nice and refreshing mix as most other forums tend to
be stricter not allowing any form of OT subjects.
It would be a shame to lose that informality and sense of community that was
developed. Although I myself am not strictly a freelancer anymore there are
a high number of freelancers on this forum and I'm sure that for them the
community aspect is a real boon, it was for me when I worked from home,
allowing me to feel like I was working with other people. A pub forum I
think would not work as it would tend to water down the spirit that existed
making it redundant. Also it's handy that the forum is so wide allowing
questions to be answered quickly yet in-depth almost regardless of subject,
media or field. That is something that not many forums or lists can boast.
I think the list owners, founders or admins should decide what they set the
forum up for and follow on with that aim possibly setting up some rules or
at least a guide for new members. It is after all called freelancers.net
forum and why should it not carry on with that. If people want a more web
design, web developer, print design etc focused and more serious, formal
forum there are many around for them not to have to ruin this list.
