Re: FN-FORUM FN Forum: CD-RW Problems.

It was my problem and it was solved on 98SE by a) taking it back to the shop
and getting a one that worked then b) ditching Nero (which was boxed with
it) as a driver conflict wouldn't allow the machine to even boot cleanly,
and installing Easy CD platinum c) getting a driver patch from Roxio for the
latest high speed CD-RW devices. It all works a treat now, but I find I
can't upgrade to XP as there is a known conflict with Easy CD....... and
that is a cracking bit of software, so I'll have to wait for the MS service
pack ;-(
How relevant this is to your problem? Not very, but I'd ditch ME for a
start, as a lot of things don't run properly! You should be able to find out
something about the device either by looking at it, in the device manager or
the bios, then make sure latest drivers are installed. Set the jumpers on
the CDRW back to the primary drive, if its on a different IDE channel, or
make sure they're set to slave if on the same.
Also, in the BIOS, you should have the option to "auto detect IDE drives" or
"manually select them". Assuming your CDRW is on the secondary channel, and
you have changed the jumpers to the correct setting, manually select
this drive as a CDRW.
I think that is about a summary of the (very useful) help I got - mail me
off list if I can be of any further assistance.
