Don't know about VB6 but you can or use to be able to download the learning
edition of VB5 for free. Also if your a student, your wife's a student,
have any children over 5 and in full time education you can get student
versions of most MS products at a very cheap price! A lot of the major
retailers certainly use to offer the student packs!
Hope that helps.

Hi Calum,
Borland released their c++ compiler free of charge,
so it might be worth having a look.
http://www.borland.com/bcppbuilder/freecompiler/
You might be able to find a windows version of gcc.
You can also try djgpp : www.delorie.com/djgpp/
Do a search on google for "c++ compiler windows" and you have the choice
really !!
As for visual basic, if you have the choice, go for delphi.
You won't regret it !!
(PS : I don't mean to start a battle VB vs DELPHI here !!! So don't shoot
me guys !!!)
I don't think you will find any legal way of getting a VB version, even an
old one.
Now I am sure somebody could burn you a CD, for evaluation purposes. (I
haven't got it by the way).
Hope it helps,
Guillaume

Can anyone recommend a good (and free!!) C++ compiler to download?
Also, where is the best place to get hold of a version (not necessarily the
latest) of Visual Basic?
TIA
Calum
