mySql will handle that amount of records. I doubt there will too much cross
referencing, so it should be as fast as fury.
Perl is a great language to get things running and tested. Once everyone is
happy in priciple, the rendering code could be re-coded in Java (or try to
keep the Perl code resident as a daemon).
Connecting Perl to mysql is a breeze with DBI.
