Re: FN-FORUM Thinking of buying a mac

Yes, I have a G4 from Jigsaw (about £1700) with a 19" Mitsubishi Diamondtron
screen (£250) an Apple LCD is about £600, a zip is useful if you are going
to send things to printers (about £100) but CDs are cheaper. You can get an
A4 col printer for about £120. If you don't want an amazing quality scanner
but need one to create placement images/web images you can get an A4 flatbed
for about £70 - £100 (with a slide scanner) which will do the job.
Don't forget the software which will prob be nearly as much as the kit if
you need Photoshop, Quark (?), Dreamweaver etc etc.
It is poss to buy 2nd hand G4s now but be cautious - the back of Mac World
has them as does Mac Format. Beware the ads where several appear with the
same number - there are companies who buy up pc/mac stocks from the many
dead 'Noo Meeja' companies and the machines may have been badly looked after
in a past life. More often I think they are being sold by people who thought
it would be instantly profitable to become a graphic designer!
(Carla now ROFL at the thought of the last statement being true)
Regards
Carla
