Re: FN-FORUM OS troubles . Cant revert back to winows 98 after installing windows 2k pro

date posted 16th December 2001 14:19

You will have to reinstall. There'd be no point in having NTFS for security
if you could just convert the file system to FAT32 and read everything off
it.

You will have to reinstall. You might be able to install something like
partition magic (or this free thing) under Win2k and make your existing NTFS
partition smaller, create a FAT32 partition in the free space and copy your
data to the new partition (if you want to dual-boot Win98 and Win2k this is
where you'll need to install Win98 later) . Then you'll have to delete the
NTFS partition (using the Win2k install disk is the easiest way to this--or
the partition magic rescue disk). Then reinstall WIn98 on the first
partition and it will be able to read your data.

You *can* reboot with the Win98 startup disk or install disk. You just can't
read drive C until you delete the partition and reinstall.

Incidentally, once you have experienced the joy that Win2k, why would you
want Win98 back?

BTW it was YOUR choice to convert to NTFS not Microsoft's. Win2k reads
FAT32...
