Re: FN-FORUM streaming video

Prices depends on whether you want live or recorded video and how many
concurrent viewers you expect. In theory there are reliability differences
but so far I haven't experienced any problems. However, I'm usually hosting
small concurrent throughput items. You'll also need to think about
streaming formats (Real, WM and QuickTime). If you restrict yourself to one
you may be able to get a better deal.

Why do you need them in the UK? US ones are generally cheaper. Do you need
UK business hours tech support? I use one UK and one US co. and have talked
to a Dutch company as another Euro time zone supplier

Most of my prerecorded streaming is hosted at NetNation
(http://www.netnation.co.uk/) who have been fine so far, and their tech
support is responsive. They're cheap for small files with high throughput,
but not for live or simulated live broadcasts.

If you have a very small number of viewers, your ISP may offer free
streaming. Lots of ISPs offer limited streaming of some sort; however, the
streams might be shared with other users so you may not be able to reliably
claim your full number of streams.

If you've got the money you can play safe with one of the big companies
like ServeCast (http://www.servecast.com/): edge serving, availability
guarantees, excellent support (especially for live webcasts) - but
expensive. I used them for a while for live and recorded stuff until the
end client ran off without paying her bills...

If you give me a call or email me off-list I can have a rootle through my
address book and maybe throw a few more names at you. But if you only have
a limited demand check with your ISP first.
