I've just been trialling BT's new self-install ADSL product. It seems
pretty good to me, although it does seem to go down for around 30-45
mins each night between 11pm and 1am.

I think it's launching in a few weeks and is priced at £40 for
installation and then £39.99 each month. It's available for both 'home'
(i.e. USB connection) and 'business' (i.e. Ethernet). Connection speed
is 512 down and 256 up. I've been getting full speed all the time, which
is surprising considering I live in London and the contention ration is
50:1! There can't be anyone else using it on my exchange. A few people I
know on different exchanges report slowdowns at peak times, although not
that noticeable unless you're using P2P programs.

I could be wrong, but I hear that the take up rate across the country is
just less than 100,000 so far. That means there are more internet TV
boxes in use than ADSL. So much for all the hype.
