Re: FN-FORUM designing the hard way

I pity anyone in the design business who relies on work to pay their weekly
overheads.
The market is flooded with designers and there just aint alota work around.
The only way that i can afford to be a designer is that i rent out property
to cover my bills
and any design work i get is extra.
Maybe try setting up your own site to make money ie use the site to sell
things eg CD's/Books/houses/cars
Then get finance from the markets to pay for it to be promoted. Then go LTD,
PLC
This is what we have done with studentsart.com
(although i have to say that the internet is a bit of a sware word to
investors at the moment)
Good Luck

Subject: FN-FORUM designing the hard way
What is the feeling of other designers on the job situation at the moment. I
was one of the poor unfortunates who was made redundant last year from my
agency and have since been freelancing but to be honest it has been hard....
I dont really want to go and do viral email campaigns and cant afford big
costly print runs for brochures...so my work is via word of mouth and it
just
gets me down as a designer that our industry is so up the wall and that I
might have to leave the profession which i adore so much....
any views from other designers who have been forced into a situation where
there isnt enough work to sustain them?
Cheers for listening and in the words of Stan Lee, 'Nuff Said'
