Have you run the adobe gamma program? - sets up Photoshop to match your
monitor.
dpi will not affect contrast brightness but gamma correction might.

Using software that came with Mac. Adobe Photoshop Elements. Manually there's
a feature on the scan where it will do it auto. Or you can change settings.
