Another way around this is to put a keyworded para inside comment tags at
the top of your page - which is not quite so frowned upon by SE - or you
could hide the comment tags in JS which they totally ignore. Also, make sure
you have links to the rest of the site for SEs to follow ;c)

what if a homepage has a full meta tag description in the head block but no
text is actually displayed on the homepage

is this ok ?
