Figures; take the simple example of people phoning TrafficWatch from their
mobile en route - that's commonplace, and even I, the luddite I am, have
done that. OTOH, I can't think of *any* web content I've ever been tempted
to pay for. Well, maybe access to the Professional Contractors Group's
contracts, but the web is being used as a simple, efficient delivery
mechanism there, rather than some new-fangled eBusiness Interactive
Multimedia Content thing...
...The trick is, to think of content that people are likely to want on the
move; I reckon it needs to be timely, /extremely/ localized, and have an
obvious time/money saving attached. I'm not convinced that people will want
to watch sport or movies on their phones, recent Nokia hype notwithstanding.
Traffic info is obvious; I'm sure this will be one of the first applications
deployed using 3G and such. Comparison shopping is another. Local services
(a la yell.com) would probably work ("I've broken down and need a local
garage" "I'm hungry and fancy a pizza/chinese/indian").
Best Regards,
Alex.
