Subject: FN-FORUM Honest advice needed!
Dear All,
I'm new to this forum and I'm really hoping you can help me.
I've recently given up work to be a stay-at-home mum. All well and good
except I need to generate some extra income and keep my mind busy at the
same time.
I used to work as a project manager in various guises in the new media
industry and before that in backing and finance. I've also worked as a
consultant on various types of new technology; wap, e-commerce, digital tv
etc.
What I wanted to ask you all was whether or not if the service was provided
you would be interested in one that took care of analysing client
equirements and preparing suitable briefs and functional specifications.
Alot of my friends work as freelance designers and they are always
complaining that the client tries to change too many things at the last
minute and in extreme cases has even refused to pay stating that not all of
the work has been completed as first agreed (it had but feature creep had
taken over a little too much).
Having written sign-off on detailed requirements not only eliminates costly
wrangling about work done but also helps designers and developers alike to
clearly understand the scope and boundaries of the work they're undertaking
and so to prepare for the unexpected better.
I'm very adept at producing said documents and have saved the companies I've
worked for alot of money on time and resources and headaches.
I'm proposing a similar service to freelancers and small companies (if
there's a market) for a very small percentage. Under 10% of the total
project budget, not entirely sure how much would be reasonable so would
welcome advice.
I would really love you to be frank and honest as I'm investigating several
avenues at the moment and could really do with some insight into what might
be a valuable service.
Thanks
Michelle.
