Was it a ZX Spectrum or a ZX80? The ZX80 came out in 1980, I had one, a
small white box, smaller than today's PC keyboards, I had a black box that
stuck on the back which boosted the RAM from 1K up to 16K (most emails today
are more than 1K in size).
This was followed by the ZX81 in 1981
The ZX Spectrum came out in 1982 and was the first home computer to have
colour and sound. I had a 48K version and later a 128K version -- love them
all.
I recently discovered a ZX Spectrum emulator for Windows (SpecX) which is
fun, just can't remember where all the keywords were on the old Speccy
keyboard. The program comes with an image of a Spectrum but it's too small
to make out the words properly.
I used to type in pages of Basic programming, spent ages writing the
programs beforehand or modifying programs out of magazines. Computers have
come a long way since then....
I also remember hogging the family TV set for hours using the computers,
until my parents bought me a small colour TV to use.

Huge fan of logan's run and Manic Miner too. My Dad had the first Spectrum
ZX80 out of anyone we knew and he used to get me (at 7!) to read out code
from his computer magazines. Mostly just binary, remember sitting there
"1,0,0,0,1,1,1,0,1" boring as hell but I thought I was being useful.

oh god i admit i ama geek also...for three years now i have had the super
nintendo emulator running on my old mac and worse than that i have MacMame
with over three hundred ROMs....including double dragon...wikid
