UK merchant accounts

Interesting discussion on shoping cart software, has anybody any experience
with setting up a merchant account. I am trying to set one up with minimal
cost from a fairly new company. The traditional banks seem very expensive
and expect a very large turnover or minimal fee. Has anyone had good
experiences with free or low cost credit transaction providers.
