One more thing as well - is there any way to alter the fixed margin guides

To change the (Blue) fixed guides you need to alter your master page
document
Page: Display: A - Master A (once you have this displayed this go back to)
Page: Master Guides (then set the master guides to the measurement you
want.)
BUT this won't alter the size of your master page text boxes. If you have
these set up on a master page rather than having hand set each box on each
separate page you can do this by going onto the master page Page: Display:
A - Master A (and altering the size of the master page text boxes.) Then
when you pull down more pages using F10/Show Document Layout or use Page:
Insert: you will have the boxes at the right size
Sounds to me like you need a Quack book
