RE: FN-FORUM Database question
date posted 9th April 2002 10:45
Hi Darren,
I am not sure about synchronizing the two databases but I would be
interested to know
if anybody else has a way of doing it.
However if the only thing you want is a COPY of the remote database (IE :
you don't update
it locally), then you might want to try to backup the remote one and
download the backup.
On the second point, I would try the ODBC driver, which will allow you to
use all your
usual VB database components. I program myself using DELPHI, and that's the
way I would
go about it, at least to start. If performance is an issue, you might want
to search
for native drivers, possibly ADO drivers if such a thing exists.
Anyway, the address is http://www.mysql.org/downloads/index.html for the
ODBC drivers.
I hope it helps,
Guillaume.

Subject: FN-FORUM Database question
Good afternoon everyone...just a quick question....looking for others
views/opinions etc...
I am just designing a database system (MySQL) to work on a web site, but I
am also planning to have the same database sat locally. Now here is the
part for everyone, I am wondering the best way of synchronising the 2
databases (web and local), does anyone have any views/advice on this. Also
has anyone tried to develop a local database (probably in Visual Basic) that
uses/accesses MySQL ?
TIA
Regards
