Linux on Alpha

This is a long shot but has anyone got experience with successfully
getting linux to run on an alpha platform. I want to spend some time
learning php and flash in a linux environment. The machine I have is a
digital pws 433a. I've gotten as far as the package installations after
formatting the partitions and then the machine hangs. The redhat forums
are full of people having the same problem but no solutions.

Alternatively has anyone got a creative solution for what to do with
this Alpha box (other than NT4)?
