They're not really "big statements", just an opinion that it's a risk and
report of what I've been told. I'm having trouble verifying them as well,
but I know that UUNet have never responded positively to any open relay or
spam origination reports that I sent when I was a mail server admin. There
also seem to have reports about nullrouting spews. This information comes
from someone connected with spews who I trust to speak the truth. Your
opinion of them will be different and the weight you attach to this warning
different too.
For example, Spamhaus doesn't list our good friends "Evidence Eliminator"
because they don't spam directly themselves, but in any case, the three
spammers they do list is actually nearly enough to trigger action. Like I
said, it's a risk that something will happen to push it over the limit, not
a certainty. They seem to be very close to the limits on a lot of these
monitoring services. URLs? http://www.spews.org/ and follow links to look
up is the easiest, I think.
For what it's worth, I don't approve of (or use) binary blacklist filters
myself, as some of them are far too trigger-happy. It is a fact that many
people do use them that way, though.
