I reckon Red Hat is a pretty good choice as it's pretty well-tested before
release, current, and has plenty of users (implying plenty of support out
there). I'm biased as I've been using it since '95 and have gotten used to
its foibles. You probably want at least 1-2GB set aside for a reasonably
well-equipped (X, GNOME/KDE, OpenOffice, Apache...) Linux install.
