All hardware was allegedly windows compatible and I would expect Intel
Solaris to run on the same hardware as Win9x in the cases I had.
The point I was trying to make is that I had hardware (windows compatible)
that was unstable with windows but stable with a number of other OS types.
This has been with a wide selection of hardware and manufacturers. The fact
of the matter is that windows is not a well written or stable operating
system. I have studied system programming and have written OS emulators and
Operating Systems for embedded applications.
It is possible that in a corporate rollout of several hundred machines, the
hardware is identical and will act identically. In these environments the
users are frequently poorly computer literate and will often put down
computer failure to their own stupidity. Far be it from me to assume that
lusers are skilled and perfect computer operators, but I've seen many cases
where it is really the OS screwing up and a reinstall or 'software upgrade'
fixes the problem (for a short while, anyway)
