Not sure about the best way to present white space to kids, maybe just
tell them that the empty parts of the site can also be part of the
design. I sometimes find that squinting at a page so you cant see the
specifics, just the general shape of the screen all blurred gives you
a good idea whether the layout is good - concepts of proximity, shape
and flow etc.
