Just a quick suggestion - why not go to your local Citizen's Advice
Bureau?
They'll arrange for you to see an appropriate solicitor and it'll be
free of charge.

The agency (Leotel) did initiate the payment and the Bank (Lloyds TSB) are
saying they did not cancel it in time. They accept it was their mistake and
refunded the agency.

What does your contract say? If the contract says no pro-rata payment and
your client agrees that you did 10 days' work the Agency are in breach of
contract and you can take them to court for the mone...

Keep the money, the bank should not have been involved in the company trying
to reclaim the money from you.

That does sound rather strange.
The agency must have in some way initiated the payment otherwise the
bank would not have known the amount.
The only thing I can think of is that the agency cancelled...

The bank is basically correct. They just do what they are told. If a
bank pays you "in error" then they are completely entitled to retrieve
