RE: FN-FORUM Twin Display Question

date posted 5th January 2003 14:40

Second display will also be a TFT. My existing TFT doesn't have DVI
input and out of all the new TFTs I've looked at the ones that do have
DVI tend to be rather expensive. As with the other posting you made,
I'm not sure that the improved picture quality of a DVI monitor will
warrant the extra expense.

I'm leaning in the direction of a reasonable PCI graphics card (as a
second card) and a reasonably priced TFT!

a basic pci card for £20 will do the job only you need to tell bios to
boot up from the pci not the agp.

A new card with twin outs is going to be more expensive obviously
depends if you want to upgrade your graphics card anyway.

I'm going through a piece by piece upgrade myself at the mo' and have my
eye on a gforce 4 with 128mb and dvi and vga out for about £130 it also
has next generation agp support at x8 inc. backwards @ x4/x2.

Is your second monitor a crt ?

If you opt for a new, replacement, double output card I'd try for a
double dvi agp if you can find one and use an old pci card for your
second crt monitor ? eventually you may want to replace the crt and plug
in two tfts to the one card. Although I haven't found a double dvi yet
but then I haven't had a serious look. plenty of vga/dvi/tv-out though.
