I tend to agree about real player - not least because its one of the few
products that provides genuine competition to Microsoft and that is probably a
good thing in the end (especially as real are opening up their formats).

This is somewhat different - firstly the AOL software is know to stick its
hooks so deep into windows that it can only be removed by a clean installation
should you choose not to continue after their trial. Secondly, persuading them
NOT to take your money (should you decide not to continue) has proved to be
something of a challenge to more than one innocent consumer. Finally there are
the users... things have improved (or perhaps the overall standard has fallen)
but there was a time when it was distinctly the exception that proved the rule
that @aol.com was broadly synonymous with "I am dumb".
We won't even bother to explore things like the nanny software that forbade
mention of Scunthorpe...
