Re: FN-FORUM What is actually wrong with AOL? (was Real One Player)

Mostly people slate it because its one of those funny things to do, a bit
like Irish jokes, or hating microsoft.
However I don't like it because you're forced to use their dial up system
which means anything other than windows and ur outta luck, plus the fact its
just a nasty system (imo) anyway. Some modems are not supported (even if
windows supports it!?!) which is hardly a great start.
It used to be that you were charged for time spent online, so that coupled
with the phone bill charges meant huge internet bills. That didnt do AOL any
favours at the time and its kinda stuck wiv em as a bad point even though
its not like that now.
People who use AOL are often new to the net (using AOL free trial or
whatever) and havn't experienced another ISP and therefore don't know any
better, thats also why its seen as a "n00bs" choice of ISP.
Theres problems with every ISP, AOL for me though has just had a lot of bad
sides to it over the time so i wouldn't use them. Oh and my friend uses them
and has often taken forever getting online at peak times. No one likes to
wait ;)
